Bonete Armchair

Natural rattan is both rustic and chic; a classic style as an occasional or dining chair, indoors and out.

The Bonete rattan armchair is the result of skilled craftsmanship.  It’s elegantly restrained design is comfortable and versatile.  A natural style is characterized by harmony and tranquility drawing in the earth elements.  The Bonete design embraces these qualities.  The grey beige tones are subtle and calming and pair elegantly with many colours, working, well with both grey and brown tones.

The Bonete rattan armchair is extremely comfortable with good back support.  It works beautifully with our teak dining tables or as a nostalgically chic occasional chair.  It’s natural rustic charm pairs well with stylish white lines to add depth and modernity to the style.

Outdoor homing has also led to a noticeable extension of the outdoor season in recent years, due in part to how popular sunrooms are becoming, and to the fact that it’s becoming increasingly common to use outdoor furniture indoors.  That can include rattan furniture that moves from a sunroom to the dining room or into a rustic-style kitchen.

Rattan is a strong material that is well suited to making furniture, because it’s also elastic, which provides a comfortable amount of give.  The weave of this beautiful and beloved material offers a light, natural and airy look.  If you have or are considering rattan furniture, remember to protect it from rain or snow, as moisture can affect the texture and colour of the material.

Practically, natural rattan should be kept under roof or inside a sunroom.  It can handle a little rain, but will stay beautiful much longer under shelter.

Though rattan is a strong and durable material and thus furniture can sit in the sun without being ruined but shouldn’t be left for sustained period without UV protection, covers should be used. It can handle the harsh temperatures, too but will become brittle if left and will wear out more quickly. Like any natural material, it needs regular cleaning and care.

One of the main benefits of buying rattan furniture is the longevity of the material when cared for correctly. To clean your outdoor rattan garden furniture you simply need to follow these steps:

  • Use a hand brush to gently remove any surface dirt and grime.
  • Fill a bowl with warm water, mixing in washing up liquid to use as a light cleaning agent. Do not use harsh detergents as this can have a negative effect on the rattan.
  • Use a soft cloth to dip into the bubbles (not the water) and use this to wipe down the various parts of the furniture. The cloth should be damp, not wet
  • Note - a toothbrush can get into the crevices and hard to reach areas.
  • Rinse the cloth and replace warm water with cold water. Wring out the cloth so it is damp only, and wipe down the furniture to remove any soap suds
  • Leave it to naturally dry outside.

Like any natural material in your home, cleaning adds to its longevity – weekly cleaning is great, If not, then once a month should suffice.

We’ve been asked, what is the difference between rattan and wicker.  You often hear the words used interchangeably.  Rattan is a material, whereas wicker is the style and method of weaving. Wicker can be woven from rattan as well as other natural or synthetic materials, which is where the confusion often lies
